More Follow-up Observations of 2018 RQ1


The NEO(Aten) 2018 RQ1 (approximate diameters 39 m - 88 m [127.953 foot - 288.7139 foot]) was first observed by the Catalina Sky Survey on 2018-09-07. As of 2018-09-10 2018 RQ1 as a data-arc span of 72.77 hr with 44 published observations. 2018 RQ1 is listed on the NASA/JPL Sentry and NEODyS CLOMON2 risk pages.(as of 2018-09-10) In an effort to help with the improvement of the known orbit I booked imaging runs on iTelescope.net's T11 and T24 of 60-30 second luminance BIN2 images each.

I was able to obtain 20 images from T11. I use Astrometrica to do the data reduction by way of the stack and track method. I had Astrometrica stack 3 sets(stacks) of 6 images. Each image was shifted match the movement of 2018 RQ1.

I was able to obtain 49 images from T24. I use Astrometrica to do the data reduction by way of the stack and track method. I had Astrometrica stack 3 sets(stacks) of 14 images. I had work around the meridian flip.

When seeking out imaging targets I often check the NEO Confirmation Page for an object that is not too faint,  not too fast, not too close to a bright moon, and not too much uncertainty.  This weekend found one and observed it for two nights. With the observations from observers from around the world along with my observations the MPC match to the known asteroid 2016 VM4 (this is not unusual.  2016 VM4 had previously been only observed for 3 days in November of 2016 and had a poorly defined orbit.

Confirmation Images of the Near-Earth Object 2015 PK9 on 2015-08-10

The Near-Earth Object  2015 PK9 (Orbit type: Apollo ) was first observed at SONEAR Observatory, Oliveira.(MPC code Y00)  on 2015 08 10.10036. The asteroid has an approximate diameter 49 m - 110 m ( Absolute Magnitude:  H= 23.651). This  asteroid made  a close-approach  to Earth on 2015-08-07 Nominal Distance (AU) : 0.0148213183067307 (5.768 Lunar Distances). The asteroid's  Earth MOID (Minimum Orbit Intersection Distance) is  0.013686 AU (5.326 Lunar Distances). The last published Observations was made at: 2015 08 11.54955. At the time of this 122 observations have been made and the orbit has as uncertainty of  6.

The Asteroid 2015 AZ43 On 2015-02-13 from Auberry California USA - MPC U69

The Near-Earth Object(Orbit type: Apollo ) 2015 AZ43 was first observed by Pan-STARRS 1 on 2015-01-11 and has been listed as a Virtual Impactor by SENTRY (JPL). 2015 AZ43 has a VERY SMALL impact risk(0.012%) for the date 2107-02-27.19. With more observations this risk could be rule out. In an effort to help improve the orbit I ran a imaging run from Auberry California USA - MPC U69 using itelescope.net's (TEL T24 0.61-m f/6.5 astrograph + CCD) on 2015-02-13.
